WOW! It's noisy out there, isn't it?! You're not alone if you think that. I do too! We're currently experiencing a noisier environment than we ever have – technology and political divisions are are to blame. You can't go anywhere online without being inundated with people's opinions, scandals, corruption, name-calling, and pretty much anything else you can think of. So how do you deal with all the noise?

It's a great question. Cutting out the noise is often easier said than done, especially lately. I admit, it's hard to look away from a train wreck. But in this post I'll be sharing a few ways I have found helpful with cutting out all the noise around us.

Get a pair of noise canceling headphones

Quite literally, noise canceling headphones can work wonders for you. I have been using my AirPods Max lately but any kind with decent noise cancellation will do – just make sure they're comfortable. You don't even have to listen to anything while you're wearing them, sometimes I sit in a cone of silence while I work away. In fact, that's exactly what I'm doing right now.

Close Twitter and other social networks

This is important. It's so easy to get sucked into flame wars, drama, and other things on social media – when you're trying to relax or get work done isn't one of those times you want to get sucked in. Close. the. app. NOW.

When you close the app, you're giving yourself more power. You're showing yourself you're capable of having the will power to close it and walk away. This reinforces your mindset and will allow you to be much more focused and present with whatever you're working on or trying to do. It works, trust me!

Stay in a positive mindset

Staying positive is crucial because positivity breeds creativity. I know it's hard. It's really hard. I struggle daily with keeping my mind from running rampant. It's different for everyone, but for me, it's questions like, am I a failure? Will I ever get my business to where I want it to be? How can I possible get everything I need / want to do done today?

Asking yourself these questions is not helpful or productive and unfortunately when you find yourself slipping into a negative mindset the worst thing you can do is be on social media, in fact, it can further exacerbate the negativity. So how do you combat the noise and negativity?

You should do something you like. Even if it's a small thing like listening to music while you work, or watching a TV show or movie, reading a book or an article on a topic that interests you. Hell, even take a hit of weed. It can work wonders.

Before I started writing this article, I actually felt myself slipping into a negative mindset, starting to beat myself up for not being at certain traffic levels on BestTechie, at which point I decided to put on my headphones, sit in a cone of silence and write this article. It's a testament to the human brain and it's capabilities – in a matter of 5 minutes I found myself turning my negativity, into positivity, and then creativity.

You can do this too

Anyone can learn to cut out the noise, the hardest part I've found is teaching yourself to identify early on when you start slipping in a negative mindset or find yourself getting distracted. The key to making this all work, is the fact you are able to identify and beat it, early on in the process – before you spiral into a wreck.

When you start feeling overwhelmed, distracted, or negative, question it. Question it immediately and then use these tools I've just provided to not let those feelings win.
